Mission Statement

The Communications Department offers enriching learning opportunities in composition, journalism, ESL, speech, literature and theater in an atmosphere of appreciation and respect for diversity. Specifically, we facilitate the development of students' abilities to read, think, write, speak and listen; and communicate effectively for specific purposes to a variety of audiences through various media.

Our Teaching and Learning Goals commit us to develop students who
  1. communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
  2. read critically in a broad range of texts
  3. utilize technology for inquiry and expression
  4. formulate topics, think critically about topics, analyze their audience, conduct necessary research, and produce finished work that meets conventions of academic discourse
  5. reason collectively
  6. bring together the knowledge and abilities acquired in their courses to participate in civic life, attain productive employment, and enjoy an enriched quality of life.
